About
I am many things: a graduate, an ibmer, a rock climber. I read books, play video games and in my spare time I write code.
I am currently working for IBM as an IT Specialist after studying Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence at Loughborough University. I chose this because it sounded the most interesting thing to do with computers I could think of a the time. I didn’t know what my prospects were for a future with the course but I sure wasn’t going to spend 4 years studying something boring. I don’t regret that decision.
I spent a year in industry working as an eMarketing Co-ordinator for the eBusiness team in 3M Health Care. I think that was one of the most valuable experiences of my life to date. I would recommend a year in industry to anyone.
I may have mentioned that I love to read books. My dream one day is to have a very large collection of books, on lots of shelves. I remind myself of that dream every time I look at a Kindle. I also climb rocks, indoors and outdoors. There isn’t anything like the feeling of completing a good climb, especially on a summer’s day in the Peak District.
Video games are another passion of mine and I’m currently playing a mix of Battlefield 3, Terraria, Minecraft and Solitaire. I’m looking forward to playing Star Wars: The Old Republic and really looking forward to Diablo 3.
I am proficient in a number of programming languages and getting better at others including HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, MySQL, C/C++, C#, Java, Ruby/Rails and Python.
